Due South of Phuket lie two classic tropical islands, Koh Racha Yai ( Big Racha ) and Koh Racha Noi ( Little Racha ). Both islands feature fringing hard coral reefs with an abundance of fish life, including octopus, cuttle fish, and moray eels. You can always find territorial triggerfish and large schools of blue line and yellow tail snapper. Both Islands are especially good for non-divers, plenty of shallow bays with big coral heads - ideal snorkeling territory.
Racha Yai Island is about one and a half hour's boat trip away from Chanlong Bay. There are numerous dive sites along the island's shore: on one side you will find a reef with soft and hard coral formations, the other side is an interesting array of large boulders. The island is surrounded with schools of pelagic fish, such as lionfish, muray eels, scorpion fish, stingrays, huge schools of small barracudas and numerous ofter underwater life forms.
Dives on the East Side of Racha Yai island are with easy conditions, clear water and a good variety of marine life. Dives on the West side consist mostly of granite rocks, sparse coral growth, invertebrates and a good variety of reef fish. Racha Yai Island is the perfect place for a diver to do a check dive. For divers of all levels.
